FIRST FORD FOR ME - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By UncleB - August 23 - 2:00 amThis is my first Ford Vehicle. I was very surprised that Edmunds gave this vehicle a bad review. I had a blazer before this one. It has GREAT pickup and off road capability. I took through 10 inches of mud with no problem. In fact, I pulled out a Nissan Xterra that was stuck. The gas mileage is ok for a SUV; the back end does slip or kick out sometimes. It made me nervous at first but this truck is both very safe and FUN to drive. I get a lot of looks in it when it is all waxed up. Be sure to haggle when you buy it. I shopped around a lot and Dollar for Dollar this was the best buy. It is a great truck. I used to HATE Fords. But this one is a keeper.

2003 Ford Explorer XLT Sport - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By davem2003 - April 30 - 7:58 amI purchased my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport back in 2006 truck was 2.5 years old and had 32000 Miles on it. I am a Heavy equipment mechanic so I service my own vehicles. regular oil changes every 3000 K, front rear diff t-case oil every 50000 K, I have replaced brakes many of times approx. every 40000K fronts and 60000K rear, I tow a 3500 l b trailer a few times a year across country in summer rest of driving is around town, Truck now has 172500 K on it and still runs well, Ive also replaced the tires twice and battery once everything else is all original!! This vehicle does everything I ask for.

Commanding View of the Road! - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By Shano - March 8 - 5:57 amPurchased this vehicle October 6th,2015. I couldnt be happier with a sporty two door 4X4! XLT I purchased came with all the bells and whistles...leather, power everything, sunroof, auto headlights & dimming rear view mirror, remote start, courtesy lights, & 4wheel drive enabled by a simple dash dial. Only 135k and runs solid and strong! Reminds me of a refined "grown up" version of a Jeep Wrangler. Turning radius is superb, view of traffic and surroundings is excellent! I live in Phoenix, AZ where the monsoons are sudden and can be quite severe, but outfitted with larger tires and 4X4 makes inclement weather something to laugh at! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a versatile, dependable ride with looks to boot! Too soon to really tell about reliability, but those reviews to be more positive than not, and was one of my main reasons for my recent purchase.

Keep on Truckin! - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By jdoss1961 - January 26 - 1:00 amI bought this a couple of years ago at a buy here- pay here for way too much money, but I have been pleasantly surprised, at the reliability of this vehicle! I have had to do some repairs on it, but nothing major, driveshaft, hoses, and spark plugs, not much else! Not bad for an 11 year old Truck with 170,000 miles on it!

I dont hear much about mechanical issues - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By Carol - January 17 - 8:20 pmI dont drive my vehicle hard by any means yet I have had numerous brake problems, ex. rotors and calipers replaced on a vehicle that was only two years old at the time. I have had a windshield leak in the drivers side corner which the dealer could not seem to fix. My brother actually took it to work one day and fixed it for me. I have had the rear wiper motor quit after one year and I barely used it. I hear squeaks and rubbing all the time when I am slowing down to stop yet the dealer cannot find where any noise is coming from. Buy another Ford, I think not! And this was the first brand new vehicle I ever purchased. Older models certainly were made better than the stuff out there now.

OK, but youll want those 4 doors - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By B Newton - August 18 - 2:00 amNot a bad overall vehicle, but am really upset that I didnt pony up the extra 1500 for the 4dr model. The 2 door really does limit its appeal and resale plummets w/ the 2door compared to the 4dr model. Fun & quiet to drive, but the dinky gas tank always makes you on guard during long trips.

Excellent Vehicle - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By THuot - May 31 - 10:00 amAbsolutely no problems whatsoever. Rides beautifully. Great transmission. Plenty of power and very good gas mileage for a vehicle of this type. Over 16000 miles and not a rattle in it.

Loved the first, hate the second - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By So-So - February 23 - 2:00 amOn my second Sport, after enjoying number one, traded for number two. Sorry I did, quality is low, air conditioner has an inherent buzz and the attention to detail is at an all time low. Ford is really tying to save money so dealers are trying to keep warranty claims to a minimum. Squeak, rattles and rolls, its a Ford.

Great Explorer Sport - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By LifeGuardGuy248 - November 4 - 2:00 amIve had my explorer for only a week and love it. Ive put 500 miles on it so far. The gas milage isnt that great, but the power and looks make up for it. Ive got the optional sunroof and cloth seats that will be perfect for going to college. The ride isnt as smooth as my moms Crown VIcotira, but her car cant pull 4000 pounds.
